Background Information                                                                 

Yan Chai Hospital (the Hospital) was founded in 1973 by the Yan Chai Hospital Board of Directors equipped initially with 100 beds. In 1991, the Hospital was enrolled as one of the public hospitals operating under the auspices of the Hospital Authority (HA). Starting as a convalescent-service provider, the Hospital has over the years developed into an acute general hospital with 824 beds and 2,635 staff (as at 31 December 2024), to provide Tsuen Wan and its neighboring areas with acute and extended care services.

Service Description

Located in the center of Tsuen Wan District, Yan Chai Hospital (YCH) is one of the acute hospitals under the Kowloon West Cluster (KWC) of the HA, providing with acute and extended care services. The specialty of Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery of YCH also serves as a referral centre under KWC. Furthermore, YCH is also one of the public hospitals in Hong Kong designated to provide total joint replacement service. In addition to catering for a 24-hour Accident & Emergency service, YCH also provides a string of multi-disciplinary specialty services and allied health services to meet public demands. Furthermore, there is a General Practice Clinic providing general and family medicine specialist out-patient consultations. Besides, the Hospital manages two General Out-Patient Clinics, namely Lady Trench General Out-Patient Clinic and Mrs. Wu York Yu General Out-Patient Clinic, providing pluralistic primary health care to the community.

Facilities

Facilities of the Yan Chai Hospital are set out as follows (as at December 2022):

  • Block A - a 23-storeyed building which is shared between Department of Health (G/F - 2/F), Government Property Agency (19/F - 20/F) and Hospital Authority (3/F - 18/F and 21/F). Currently it accommodates the Hospital’s lecture theatre, staff overnight rooms and changing rooms, doctors’ offices, offices of Hospital Administration, Central Nursing Division and other service units as well as Cluster Office of KWC Family Medicine and Primary Health Care Department.
  • Block B - a 19-storeyed main service building accommodating the following services/facilities: acute wards, isolation ward, Accident & Emergency Department, Emergency Medicine ward, Operating Theatres, Anaesthetic Department, Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Intervention Centre cum Coronary Care Unit, Haemodialysis Unit, Acute Cerebro-Vascular Treatment Centre, Paediatrics and Adolescent Day Ward, Wellness Clinic for Breast Disease, Endocrine Surgery Clinic, ENT Ambulatory Centre, Surgical Ambulatory Care Centre, Total Joint Replacement Centre, Department of Radiology, Endoscopy Centre, Pathology Department, Occupational Therapy Department, Physiotherapy Department, Medical Social Services Department,   office of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Service. Furthermore, office of Patient Relations Officers, Kitchen, Mortuary and the Yan Chai Hospital Wilson Tsang Churk-ming Traditional Chinese Medicine Pain Treatment Centre are also located in this block. 
  • Block C - a 12-storeyed block accommodating hospital services include General Practice Clinic, Family Medicine Specialist Clinic, Specialist Out-patient services, Pharmacy, Dietetic service, Speech Therapy, Paediatrics and Adolescent Ambulatory Centre, Health Resource Centre, Medical Ambulatory Care Centre and Special Diagnostic Centre, Integrated Diabetes Mellitus / Endocrine and Renal Ambulatory Care Services, Geriatric Day Hospital, office of Colon Assessment Public-Private Partnership Programme and Medical Records Services Department. In addition, medical services which are managed by the Yan Chai Hospital Board such as Chinese Medicine Clinic cum Training and Research Centre/Civil Service Chinese Medicine Clinic, Dental Clinic and the Head Office of Yan Chai Hospital Board are also located in this block.
  • Multi-Services Complex - a 13-storeyed building housing an extended care centre on part of 8/F to 12/F to provide rehabilitation and infirmary services together with allied health services including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Podiatry, Prosthetics & Orthotics and Clinical Psychology. Moreover, the office of Community Nursing Service is also located in this building. The G/F up to part of 8/F are the day and residential welfare facilities, nursing home etc. managed by the Yan Chai Hospital Board.

Staffing

As at 31 December 2024, the Hospital had a staff force of 2635 consisting of 234 doctors, 928 nurses, 274 allied health staff and 1199 other staff groups including administrative and supporting staff.
