According to the statistics conducted by the Census and Statistics Department, there are over 570 thousand persons with disabilities in Hong Kong. Of those persons with severe disabilities, some of them need constant care and are being looked after by their family members who are worn out by their round the clock caring responsibilities. Although some severely disabled persons have made applications for subvented residential care homes, the waiting time is long. To help these families, the Yan Chai Hospital Board set up the Yan Chai Caring Fund for Severely Disabled on 8 May 2011.
The Yan Chai Caring Fund for Severely Disabled provides temporary financial assistance to the severely physically handicapped persons to meet their caring need so as to enhance their quality of life and to alleviate the long-term burden on their family.
To be eligible to apply for assistance, an applicant (severely physically handicapped person) must satisfy the following criteria:
The ambit of grant is to provide temporary financial assistance to the severely physically handicapped persons in meeting their caring need.
If the applicant is living with family members, the application has to be made on a household basis.
The applicant must pass both the income and asset tests |
